One of the most common questions I get from people is how do I go swimming? What do I wear? What do I do?
There are a few adult swim diapers available to choose from to help those who may have a bowel accident while swimming. The disposable option is Swimmates. The reusable options are SoSecure and the MyPool Pal swim diapers.
There is at least one other option to look at we will discuss as well but so far this is one area of the market that has been severely neglected. The amount of fears and concerns associated with swimming and water events is an enormous problem for us to overcome.
The Swim Diapers Available Today
I, like many of you who may be reading this, have shied away from water activities myself as well due to my own issues. It’s not even out of a concern of having a bowel accident.
It’s just one of those things that at first you steer clear of. Then, before you know it, it has been years since you last went swimming.
Now that I’m in a more mature phase of my life where I’m capable of walking tall I think it’s time to explore the various approaches we can take towards enjoying our water based interests.
When one really thinks about it, swim diapers are just not going to be necessary for most of us.
If you only have bladder issues then the main thing you need to worry about is where you can change out of a diaper into swimwear that is as close to the water as you can get.
If you have bowel accidents this is a good time to change into your Swimmates or MyPoolPal swim diaper which you can wear underneath your regular swim trunks.
This way you can get into the water as soon as possible. Once you’re already wet and in the water it likely won’t be noticeable if you wet yourself when you get out of the water.
Now if you have a bowel accident in or out of the water you’ll be protected from making a mess! Theoretically anyway.
How effective either of these products is at actually containing the mess remains something I still need to determine.
I very recently finally got my hands on some Swimmates myself so I will be doing my best to put them to the test in the ways that matter to us.
Here you can see me modeling the Swimmates. After trying them on I’m not yet convinced they will do what it is they are designed to do.
The pull up design is just not the greatest design at containing bowel accidents. I guess I won’t really know until I’m able to put them to the test.
I have way more experience with bedwetting diapers and daytime diapers!
Do Swim Diapers Hold Pee and Poop?
When looking for a swim diaper it is common to want to find a product that can hold both pee and poop. We generally worry about the time we spend out of water more than in the water.
At least I know I do.
Swim diapers are designed to contain bowel accidents while swimming. For obvious reasons, if they were able to absorb liquids they would not make for very good swimwear.
This is one reason why it would be a good idea to change into your swimwear as close to the water as you can get. That way you’re not spending so much time without protection from wetting yourself.
If you’re going to be planning to spend all day out it likely would be a good idea to bring some extra diapers or pull-ups with you. This way you can have some protection for when you’re spending a more extended duration of time out of the water.
This is something I’m going to be creating far more content on as I grow this site and my YouTube channel. Especially when I start doing more travel type diapered adventure videos!
I know what a pain point this is for all of us diaper wearers out here. Needing to wear diapers makes water day activities daunting. It makes traveling and vacationing, in general, a more scary event.
Creating a variety of strategies for you to use and deploy so you don’t have to miss out is among the many goals of The Diaper Dynamo brand.
Knowing how to handle certain situations and events will give you the confidence you need to go enjoy it.
If I were spending all day at a water park, for example, I probably want to get something like the containment swim shorts we discuss in the next section. If I happen to pee myself while waiting in line for a slide then oh well.
What else can we do?
It’s possible that something like the Swimmates may even direct the urine to flow in a way where it isn’t so obvious that’s what is happening.
What Are Incontinence Swim Shorts?
There are now available a few different options of incontinence swim shorts available as well!
This is a rather new type of product beginning to emerge on the market within the past few years.
One of the first brands that came to my awareness that was offering this type of product was Conni USA. They have an interesting lineup of what they call containment swim shorts for incontinence.
They are designed to be at least somewhat stylish while also being an all in one solution for your incontinence protection needs.
Inside the swim trunks is a liner made of a similar material as what a divers wetsuit is made of. It’s designed to create a seal that will contain a bowel accident you may have while going about your fun water activities.
This sort of option is a great way to forego the worry of having to have an extra swim diaper to wear under your trunks.
Then there are the Incy Wincy incontinence swimwear options. They have a much more diverse selection of options for you to choose from.
Not gonna lie, I think those jellyfish trunks look pretty cool. I’d wear them!
The good thing about the options that Incy Wince offers is that they offer styles for both genders as well as for kids.
To be clear, Conni USA also had some options in youth sizes too.
I’m sure as time goes on and I help draw more attention to products like these there will be more options that begin to emerge for us to choose from! This is one aspect of incontinence management that is ripe for new products!
