What Is Diaper Powder Used For?

As a person who has needed to wear diapers for many years I can tell you with first hand experience that a diaper with powder feels a lot better than any diaper without powder.

A good diaper powder is used to help protect the skin of a person’s diaper area by keeping it dry, adding a feeling of freshness to a new diaper, and helping to prevent diaper rash. In some cases, like with Dynamo’s Diaper Powder, they are even designed to treat diaper rashes too!

There are a lot of talc free powders to choose from these days that would be great for you to look at giving a try!

What they are made of can vary pretty widely. Since the market as been moving away from using talc there have been a lot of products emerging on that are based off of more organic ingredients.

A Diaper Powder Helps Keep The Skin Dry

Adding a layer of absorbent powder can help give the skin an extra layer of protection against rashes.

Some powders are merely good for comfort and add an extra scent of freshness. Others have a composition that makes them good anti perspirants.

The presence of powder in certain parts of the diaper can help keep you feeling clean and dry for longer.

Places like the hips and pelvis area. As well as around the leg holes and leg cuffs. This layer of absorbent powder helps prevent the skin from feeling clammy too soon.

When the composition of the powder is right it can also help heal the skin and keep it healthy.

Without having tried many of the brands on the market, I have experimented with a lot of the various ingredients that are used in many of them while trying to create my own unique brand. (Dynamo’s Diaper Powder which you can try by clicking here!)

There are brands like Caldesene, Butt and Body Rescue Powder, and Gold Bond Medicated Baby Powder that all have compositions that I think would make them great options for use as a diaper powder for adults.

All of the brands listed here either use cornstarch and zinc oxide or arrowroot powder and zinc oxide. Both of these combinations prove to be effective on both preventing diaper rash as well as treating it.

It’s the extra stuff beyond these main ingredients these different brands bring together that make each of their products unique. It’s also some of that stuff I don’t know a lot about but the different combinations of powders can get different results.

Each individual ingredient in the mixture has its properties it brings to the table. It’s gifts it brings to the party so to speak.

When they bring their gifts together and play in concert they can have a positive net effect on the health of your skin.

Some of the powders you can find out there might not even be marketed for diaper use but I suspect many would actually be great for it! Just be careful to read the label and ingredients too before you go sprinkling a bunch of stuff down there.

ESPECIALLY if you have any kind of allergies!

It may be wise to look at the ingredients list of the product and test it on a small patch of your skin somewhere on your body before sprinkling any kind of powder all over your diaper area if you know you’re prone to allergic reactions.

A Diaper Powder Provides A Feeling Of Freshness

A good quality adult diaper these days can do a great job protecting the skin and absorbing fluid.

In fact, many of the best adult diapers these days can last on average 8 hours no problem.

They’re so good at protecting you that you might not even fully realize how wet you are until it reaches a point where it’s hard NOT to notice.

This level of discomfort is often one of the signs you need to change your diaper. (<—-to watch on YouTube)

It’s also one of the things that can make putting on a dry diaper so refreshing.

Once you finally do notice how wet you just taking the soggy diaper off can feel refreshing. You suddenly realize how wet you actually were as your skin thanks you for the breath of fresh air.

After you get all cleaned up and your skin has dried it can feel even more refreshing to add in a layer of protective powder before taping up the next diaper.

This extra layer of protection can come with additional properties in it that also help to neutralize bad odors while even adding some nice ones into the mix.

Many types of body powders and talc free baby powders contain baking soda. Baking soda can neutralize obnoxious odors chemically so it’s a useful ingredient to have when you want to minimize odor.

In the case of adding additional odors for increased levels of freshness it really depends on the sorts of fragrances you like.

Many adults that need to wear diapers tend to shy away from skin care products designed for babies simply because they do not want to smell like an infant.

This is an understandable sentiment. The smells around us play a big role in the experiences we have.

In this particular case, when we feel like we smell like a baby or like others will know we are wearing diapers because of how we smell it can impact how we feel about ourselves.

This is why the first few kinds of powders in the Dynamo’s Diaper Powder lineup will be unscented AND why I’ll be working to develop a line of scented powders that you can be proud to smell like.

I want Dynamo’s Diaper Powder to help solve your diaper rash issues while also helping to boost your confidence too by providing you with a line up of powder options to choose for your diapering supplies.

Ones that will help you live your best life possible!

Do You REALLY Need Diaper Powder?

I hope it’s clear at this point in the article that I have my own line of diaper powders I’m interested in convincing you to try so my answer to this will clearly be biased but allow me to elaborate from the perspective of a life long diaper wearer rather than the creator of a diaper powder.

To start off with, no. You do not REALLY need a diaper powder. I have diapered up plenty of times without it and I’m still here today. It is not a TOTALLY vital requirement for wearing diapers.

It DOES actually help though.

Ever since I started needing to wear diapers full time diaper rash has been a constant concern and problem for me.

It’s always there. Lurking in the background. Occasionally rearing it’s ugly head in red welts on my skin around my hips and buttocks.

Every once in a while it becomes a major problem I need to address. I’ve gotten pretty good at avoiding it over the years but I have always found it to be one of the more challenging aspects of needing to wear diapers.

Over the years I’ve developed my own skin routines to help treat and prevent diaper rash. I have baby oils, pastes, and ointments on hand at all times for this very reason.

When the red bumps show up I’d hit them with a zinc paste that would help reduce the inflammation but then it would cause the skin to get dried out.

In the next diaper change, after getting the paste and skin wiped clean, it would be baby oil, A&D, and a layer of store brand cornstarch based baby powder.

The baby oil would help to nourish my dried out skin from the rash zapping zinc paste while also continuing to help protect the skin by repelling fluid. Over the layer of baby oil I would then add a layer of A&D ointment for an additional layer of protection.

These two products together help to create a protection barrier.

Then I would even add powder on top of that to give me the fresh dry feeling.

I would get this rotation of product applications going on between each diaper change all in a battle to keep my skin from getting rashes.

This all worked okay but never really fully would get rid of the diaper rash bumps until I took some extra time to let my skin air out while sitting on an absorbent pad. (or open diaper, or towel, whatever you got really!)

It wasn’t until I went through the process of trying to create my own brand of powders that I began to realize how a good diaper powder is the optimal solution to avoid diaper rash.

Once I found a combination of ingredients that worked I started to see a mild effect on the diaper rash bumps I had. On top of that the particular combination of ingredients I found left my skin feeling softer and smoother than ever!

Before I had any of these experiences my personal preference was to always have some type of baby powder on hand to use just because I liked the feeling of freshness it gave me. I also do actually like the fragrances too.

I know that many out there don’t though and don’t generally would prefer NOT smelling like a child.

After going through the process of learning more about powders and seeing the effects of the powder I created on my own skin, I do now think a good quality diaper powder is something every diaper wearer needs to at least try.

Especially if you have issues with diaper rash! It is far easier to just apply a layer of powder during every diaper change than to go through the barrage of steps I described above.

Ever since I’ve been using Dynamo’s Diaper Powder it’s pretty much all I have needed to help keep my skin smooth and clear!
